Why are you interested in pursuing research? What do you hope to learn? Why are you specifically interested in getting involved in the ASPIRE research program?
Describe your long-term academic and career goals (e.g., intended college major, career, etc.).
Have you had any experience working with infants, children, elderly people, people with physical or mental disabilities, people with neurological or psychiatric disorders, and/or people from highly disadvantaged economic backgrounds? If so, please describe.
Science is an exciting environment built upon innovation and imagination, and it relies on its researchers' unique perspectives and experiences. However, there remains a gap in the diversity of perspectives within science, especially of those who are historically underrepresented
Science is an exciting environment built upon innovation and imagination, and it relies on its researchers' unique perspectives and experiences. However, there remains a gap in the diversity of perspectives within science, especially of those who are historically underrepresented (see
https://diversity.nih.gov/about-us/population-underrepresented
).
Please tell us about your perspectives, personal experiences, and/or identities and how they impact your academic goals and research interests. In addition, please include how you have contributed to diversity-related efforts (in science or in general) in the past and/or how you plan to do so in the future.
Describe any prior work, volunteer, or extracurricular experiences (even if they seem unrelated to academics). Your non-academic experiences are very important for ASPIRE. They provide important skills, such as planning and communication. And they give you valuable perspectives that can influence what research questions you ask and how you go about answering them.
Although most ASPIRE labs do not require extensive computer skills (and will teach you these skills), a few labs are looking for students with specific computer skills. Describe any computer skills that you’ve already developed (Web design, social media, video production, graphics, spreadsheets, programming, etc.).
Provide rank-ordered list of desired faculty mentors here (and indicate why you are interested in each of them):
Please provide a rank-ordered list of between 2 and 5 ASPIRE faculty (from the list of
available faculty members
.) with whom you would be interested in working (use “1” as your top choice). For each, indicate why you are interested in working with that individual. Information about the current faculty and their research can be found on the
ASPIRE web site
. If you are interested in working with a faculty member who is not on that list, but who works in the area of mind-and-brain sciences, please include that faculty member in your list; we may be able to add them to the program.
Upload Transcript (PDF)
Please upload a copy of your transcript in PDF format (not .docx, .cfm, etc.). An unofficial copy is fine. If you have completed at least one quarter at UC Davis, this should be your UC Davis transcript. If you have completed less than one quarter at UC Davis, please send the transcript from your most recent previous institution (e.g., your high school). If you think that multiple transcripts are relevant, you can combine them into a single PDF.
